Project Experience

Residential

Village at Museum Park, San Jose, CA: Project Engineer for the award winning design of a new 117-unit, three and four-story wood-framed apartment/townhouse complex, comprised of 11 separate buildings with 7 different floor plans. The project included a post-tensioned concrete slab podium building.

Private Residence, Atherton, CA: Senior Engineer for the design of a 15,000 square foot, three-level wood and steel-framed custom single family residence. The project included a 20-foot tall sport court located in the basement that required 21” thick concrete retaining walls. Lateral resistance was provided by a combination of plywood shear walls, steel moment frames, and steel braced frames.

Private Residence, Portola Valley, CA: Project Manager for the design of a 10,000 square foot, three-level wood and steel-framed custom single family residence. The project included four additional outbuildings. Lateral resistance was provided by a combination of conventional plywood shear walls and custom designed 3-foot wide by 14-foot tall steel brace frame panels.

Private Residence, Portola Valley, CA: Senior Engineer for the design of a 1,000 square foot cabana structure and 300 linear feet of site retaining walls. All structures were pier supported. The cabana roof structure included exposed wood trusses with the architectural requirement of concealed structural connections.

Private Residence, Portola Valley, CA: Project Manager for the design of a two-story wood framed addition. The lower level was set one story below and immediately adjacent to the existing structure. The project included the design of a temporary steel soldier beam and lagging retaining wall to provide support of the existing structure until the permanent concrete retaining wall was in place.

Private Residence, Woodside, CA: Project Manager for the design of a 7,000 square foot, three-level wood framed single-family residence. The basement level foundation consisted of a uniform thickness, pier supported, structural slab. The project included a detached two-level garage structure.

Private Residence, Portola Valley, CA: Project Manager for the design of a 7,000 square foot, three-level wood framed single-family residence with two rotunda elements. The basement level was founded on a 14” thick conventionally reinforced mat slab. The project included a pool house/cabana structure.


Commercial

Bay Street, Emeryville, CA: Project Engineer and Construction Manager for a mixed use residential over retail project on a 20-acre site. The project included 400,000 square feet of retail space, a five-level post-tensioned concrete parking structure, a 16-screen cinema complex, 364 residential units, and a 142-foot span vehicular bridge between adjacent raised parking levels. Subsequent to completion of the shell structures, additional work included the build out of tenant spaces including those for Harry & David, Cingular Wireless, and Sunshades.

Midtown Safeway Store, San Jose, CA: Quality Control Engineer for the structural design of a 60,000 square foot C.M.U. and steel framed retail building.

Hyatt Saint Clair Courtyard, San Jose, CA: Project Manager for the design of a structurally independent courtyard enclosure structure that utilizes cantilever steel columns.

Hilton Garden Inn, South San Francisco, CA: Project Engineer for the design of an 85,000 square foot, seven-story, cast-in-place concrete hotel with concrete shear walls and post-tensioned concrete floor slabs.

Industrial / High Tech

Zymed, South San Francisco, CA: Senior Engineer for the seismic upgrade and tenant improvement of a 24,000 square foot tilt-up concrete building. The project included addition of a 7,000 square foot interior mezzanine level.

Lightwave Microsystems Corporation, San Jose, CA: Senior Engineer for renovation and tenant improvement of a 40,000 square foot tilt-up concrete building. The project included the addition of a structurally independent 3,200 square foot mechanical platform above the existing roof.

Guzik Technical Enterprises, Mountain View, CA: Senior Engineer for the seismic upgrade and tenant improvement of a 66,000 square foot tilt-up concrete building. The project included strengthening of existing concrete shear walls, addition of interior braced frames and a new steel-framed mezzanine level.

Hyseq – Building E, Sunnyvale, CA: Senior Engineer for the tenant improvement of an existing two-story concrete tilt-up building. The project included the installation of new roof mounted mechanical equipment, a new elevator, and a new lobby stairway.

Apple Computer Data Center, Cupertino, CA: Project Manager for the upgrade and modernization of an existing tilt-up building that houses a critical function data center.

Microgenics Osgood Facility, Fremont, CA: Project Manager for a tenant improvement for the conversion of an existing warehouse facility to a medical manufacturing facility.


Public / Government / Infrastructure

City of Santa Clara Fire Stations No. 3 and 4, Santa Clara, CA: Project Manager for the design of two new 3,000 square foot fire stations for the City of Santa Clara. The structures were wood framed with steel moment resisting frames at apparatus bay openings.

Tasman Corridor Light Rail Aerial Guideway Platform Stations, San Jose, CA: Project Engineer for the design of the aerial platform stations and pedestrian access structures. Pedestrian access structures included three freestanding 60-foot tall concrete elevator structures and a 95-foot long steel vierendeel truss pedestrian overcrossing.

Vector Control Service Yard, San Jose, CA: Project Engineer for the design of a new single story 7,600 square foot tilt-up concrete vector control building for the County of Santa Clara.

Central Parking Structure, City of San Mateo, CA: Project Engineer for design of the seismic retrofit and expansion of an existing parking structure in downtown San Mateo that spans three city blocks. The project included the addition of a new steel-framed level of parking over an existing concrete parking structure.

Palo Alto Transit Center, Palo Alto, CA: Senior Project Engineer for the structural design of a new 24 foot wide by 300 foot long bus passenger shelter for the VTA’s Palo Alto Transit Center.

Santa Clara County Service Center-Building One Seismic Retrofit, San Jose, CA: Engineering Manager for the seismic retrofit of a joined 30,000 square foot two-story office building and a 72,000 square foot warehouse building. The project included the seismic separation of the two buildings and the design of new shotcrete shear walls and steel braced frames.

Institutional

Liberty Middle School Gymnasium, Lemoore, CA: Project Engineer for a new steel framed gymnasium. The project included the design of 85-foot long trusses spanning over the gymnasium.

Pat Malley Fitness and Recreation Center, Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA: Project Engineer for the design of a new 48,000 square foot gymnasium and recreation facility. The project included the design of 100-foot long roof trusses and an upper level suspended running track around the gymnasium perimeter.

First Presbyterian Church, Salinas, CA: Project Manager for the design of a 51,000 square foot, three-level steel and wood-framed church. The project included steel roof trusses spanning 120 feet over the sanctuary and stepped steel cantilever beams for support of the balcony level seating areas.

Church of the Crossroads, San Jose, CA: Project Engineer for the design of a 35,000 square foot three story steel framed church structure and a 12,200 square foot two-story multi-use building. The design included a two-way steel truss spanning 90’ over the sanctuary.
